English 420, Business Writing

Last week we met first in a computer lab to discuss what we would do to make a calendar of events for Underground Printing. We also continued to work on our final flier and made a few finishing touches on our rough drafts of our first two fliers. We took into consideration some of the alignment errors which were provided from Professor Hannah in our previous meeting.

During this previous week our group met to prepare for our techonology presentation involving Windows Movie Maker. We had previously prepared what material we wanted to cover in the presentation. This week we met and actually did a couple practice run-throughs. Everyone knows what they are talking about, but since we have not met due to class cancellation, it may be a little bumpy during the presentation on Monday. I don't think it will play a huge roll in our grade, but might contribute to the fluidity of the presentation.

Since Knight Corporation has a low turnover rate with employees, they are limited on how much talent can be received through the technological area. I want to concentrate my research on finding ways to help our veteran employees learn new and effective ways of technology with ease. I believe one way to incorporate technology with older employees is by slowly incorporating them with the use of computers. If we give them or require them to have a new state of the art computer or labtop, hopefully it will inspire them to actually learn new things with it and diversify the company.

I am currently a senior at Purdue University majoring in Financial Counseling and Planning. I am reaching you because I have interest in the Sales team for this class. I feel I would benefit this group more so than any other because of my course background, some sales experience, and communication skills.

Attached you should find my cover letter for American Family Insurance.

The two resumes I would like to compare in this reading response are resumes number one and number four. In the first resume, they use a good name and heading. They make use of their space, but could possible double space after the heading. The actual layout of the resume is good. They are consistent with bullets and tabbing. However, it is lacking in the contrast area. They should maybe bold the sections instead of just the type of intern. The font sizes and styles are good, simple and big enough to read with ease.

First of all, Michelle needs to have a good idea that she wants to be located in California which is far away from home here in Indiana. She has a lot of good experience that is career related which is much more than most of us can say coming out of college. It says that she speaks English and Spanish. I’m not sure how much Spanish she actually speaks. It does not say that she is fluent in it. She may only have basic knowledge of the language where she might be able to pick up some things in a conversation. She might not speak it fluently for an outsider to understand.
