English 420, Business Writing

This week was very productive for our group. On Tuesday, Brad and myself met with David to show him our designs. Also, we showed him the changes we made to the previous designs from the week before. On Wednesday, the group met up in class with Mark and we talked bout our progress so far with this service learning project. On Thursday, we met with David once again as a group. Everyone had these examples to show David and the meeting went very well. All four of us had great ideas and progress on the campaign designs. Brad designed the logo and worked on the yard sign design.

On Monday we had to present our final presentation. The presentation went very well but, we were unable to finish it as time ran out. We did not have any technological difficulties, but we could not show our video. Robert was discussing the advanced level of technologies and had to stop the video describing social networking. Also, since we were cut short Robert did not talk about our online sales option either.

On Wednesday we had our group meetings in class. During this meeting we asked questions about our white paper and came across one main problem in our writing. We were all having problems relating each type of technology back to how it will benefit Knight Corporation. This is a big part of the white paper and we plan on working on that in our white paper revision. Another problem with our white paper was that it was lacking transitions. We were just ending one technology and diving into the next without transitioning between the two.

On Wednesday night, March 5, the group met up to work on the rough draft of the white paper project. Brad could not make it to the meeting because he had to work at one of the computer labs. However, we kept Brad updated with what changes we were making to the white paper through Instant Messenger.

Tuesday night we met as a group to finish our technology presentations. I was in charge of the PowerPoint and added a couple more slides. We made sure we had everything ready, for example, our handouts and the podcast sample we produced. After the last few changes to the technology presentation, we moved on to the white paper project.

The project so far is going very well. The group met on Saturday to work on our technology presentations. However, Robert could now make it to the meeting because he was working all day. We met in our classroom as it has the Mac computers available and we were beginning our technology projects on GarageBand. At first, we were all a little confused as how to use the features and all the options that are present in this software, GarageBand. But, after playing around a little with the different options and watching a you-tube video on creating a podcast on GarageBand helped us tremendously.

On Friday we discussed our plan for this project and are going to be working with GarageBand. After doing more research about this program, GarageBand will be a good match for our technology team. We are planning on working with the podcast feature in the GarageBand. Podcasts are used to develop audio and/or video presentations that can be shared with co-workers and other people outside the company. A good way of distributing these presentations would be by uploading them on ipods or sending via e-mail to help strengthen the communication between the management and employees.

I found an article through EBSCO Host. The title of the article is "Virtual Message Center" by Wayne Kawamoto. This article will help the company switch to a move popular an new way of managing their phones.
