English 420, Business Writing

For the second week of our Service Learning Project, we decided to focus our attention on 9 Irish Brothers. We have met with the managers once in order to discuss plans for our project. The manager, Matt, suggested we rewrite the new employee orientation guide to help him out. He provided us with a CD full of the current orientation guide. After looking at the volume of information, we decided as a group to focus our attention on the "front of the house" orientation. This includes, servers, bussers/runners, bartenders and doormen/greeters.

The first week of our service learning project we chose three local bars/music venues to focus our service learning project on. We chose 9 Irish Brothers, Knickerbocker Saloon, and the Lafayette Brewing Company. I was tasked to research the Knickerbocker Saloon, and I found much information on the website. I googled "Knickerbocker Saloon Lafayette Indiana." I then wrote a 300 word paper on the upcoming events that our group could assist with advertising.

This past week I researched White Papers and brought in examples of two of them to class. I also met with my group members on Friday and asked questions about the White Paper Project. We also used class time to talk about what each of us should research. I found many sites for Blue Cross Blue Shield that were helpful to me when researching Health Care Plans. I worked with iMovie in attempts to understand it better for our presentation on Monday, and it was rather challenging. We figured it out though, and are ready to present to the class.

I was tasked to research information about the differences between health care plans. I found definitions of HMOs and PPOs along with health insurance information by state. On this website I also found frequently asked questions about health insurance, which were extremely helpful. The website is http://www.healthinsurance.org.

I searched the EBSCOhost website in the CINAHL database to find information on healthcare. I searched health care benefits, health care costs, and employee benefits to find these three articles which could be helpful. There were about 150 hits on each search.
