English 420, Business Writing

For the presentation, we are going to be addressing what we did for Henni for our Service Learning Project. We are planning on talking about our facebook ad that we set up, our flyer, our business card, and our buy 12 get one free card. We are also planning on talking about the difficulties that we have had with Henni and her inability to tell us what she wants. It was a learning experience though because in life, especially business you are going to be put in front of difficult client and you have to learn to adapt.

Last week we met first in a computer lab to discuss what we would do to make a calendar of events for Underground Printing. We also continued to work on our final flier and made a few finishing touches on our rough drafts of our first two fliers. We took into consideration some of the alignment errors which were provided from Professor Hannah in our previous meeting.

Last week, I created the advertisement flyer and the banner/sign to be display on the window of the hairshop. Using Illustrator and Photoshop, I created 2 design for each flyer and banner; doing this way will give our client two options to choose from.

This week we have laid out our plans. We are producing a advertising pack to give to Henni. In our pack we will offering a advertising layout that she can use for a newspaper ad in the future. We are going to be focusing the ad on her skill level over the other chains. We will also be producing a better business card for her. Her current card is bland and doesn't have any map to show where her shop is located. We will be fixing these problems that we noticed and present her with our new plan. It will be up to her to decide if she chooses to use our layouts.

When we met with David on Tuesday we showed him our revised designs that we did. He really liked Brads yard sign design. As he was looking at our designs he made comments on them. He also said that we had to put paid for by the committee to elect David Woolums. We have to have this on our deliverables do to campaign laws. On Thursday when we met with him he had him choose which designs he liked best and any final revisions he would like us to do. We are planning on having the final copies to present to him on Tuesday for his approval.

This week we got together on Wednesday for class and talked about the last week of the project. We talked about which places we would each go to find out about business cards prices and such. We are each going to go to a place that sells business cards and then we are going to write up a document about that specific place. We are also going to write up the Hookah! analysis this week. We also talked briefly about the presentation and what we are going to say.

This week was a rather disappointing week when it came to our service learning project. We met with out contact at Nine Irish Brothers, Matt, on Monday. I had come down with a very bad case strep throat, so I couldn't attend the meeting. Jake had stepped in as group leader and went to the meeting in my place. We had met earlier that day to complete a few odds and ends on the document for the meeting with Matt. The meeting didn't go very well only because we had forgotten to save the document on Jake's computer. He rescheduled for the following day.

Our presentation is scheduled for tomorrow and our group should be in good shape. We are all on different schedules and as busy as we are, we managed to split everything up. I believe all of us have completed what we have agreed to do and we will do our presentation tomorrow. With that in mind, we will get together this week to finalize everything and have our project ready to turn in by Friday as originally planned.

This week our group had our final meeting at Boiler Market before the project is due. We met Thursday with our contact Ben to show him our latest version of the updated pamphlet. This was our fourth update, and we had made several revisions from the original draft. Ben was very pleased with the pamphlet and had no more suggestions for improvement. We will be dropping off printed color copies of the pamphlet by Friday. Matt and I decided that since we had leftover money from our printing allowances, we would use the rest of our funds to supply color copies to the Boiler Market.

We finished our rough drafts last week and are going to show them to Shannon tomorrow at 2pm. In this meeting, we hope to get her opinion on what we need to correct and what she likes and dislikes about the design. After this meeting, Andy will have the title that Shannon would like for the Facebook group. He will then be able to put together the group. Brittany, Jamie, and I also will need to revise the rough drafts to fit the YWCA's needs. I think overall Shannon will be happy with our work.
