Developing Paragraphs

I think that the reading was very short. To me, it seemed like the reading kept repeating itself in a different way all to convey the same idea. I also did not know that so much went into making a simple paragraph. I did not know about the medium, the genre and the interface. I always thought that a paragraph was simply four or five sentences combined together to make an idea. The reading also explained that a paragraph gives readers' eyes a break from reading. It also gives them a place to start back to when they come back to read more. The reading also taught me to better my transitions in a paper so that everything connects and makes sense.

The Day After Tomorrow

The Day After Tomorrow
The movie “The Day After Tomorrow” is a thrilling movie about the effects of global climate change when they are applied to the world within the time span of 10 days. In the beginning of the movie, The northern arctic shelf breaks off dumping a massive amount of cold water into the northern Atlantic Ocean. This continues and brings cold arctic water into the Northern Atlantic Current causing massive temperature drop. After this, a massive chain of events occurs in which the world is affected by climate changes.
As time goes on, storms develop that are extremely severe. Multiple tornadoes occur at the same time and devastation takes place all over the world. Hurricanes even form over land. Then these storms combine to form three massive systems that cover the entire world. They bring super-cooled air from the troposphere to the sea level freezing everything instantly.
Throughout this chain of events, a boy named Sam is stuck with his friends in a New York public library. His father Jack is a professor and studies geology and says that the entire northern hemisphere is going to freeze and needs to be evacuated. Refusing to listen to him, the Vice President of the United States ignores his advice. As time goes on, Sam and his friends try to survive in the library as Jack comes after his son.
The story concludes with most of the world running to the south. Jack finds his son Sam and they reunite. It was a good movie with an action packed genre.

Reading Critically

I found this reading to be interesting and useful. I know that my dad uses a highlighter to mark things that are important in the books that he reads. I will probably start highlighting the things I read so that maybe it can help me in my other classes.

My Image and Quote

Ethos, Logos and Pathos

I remember when I took Com 114, we briefly went over the Ethos, Logos and Pathos theory. The idea was to gain a knowledge of speaking so that when we gave speeches, we would perform them well. It was taught to us so that we would learn to speak from the heart and make it as if we believed what we were saying. The reading tells much of the same things.

Online Research

The information in the reading was sort of dull. I took Com 114 last semester and we went over a lot of what the reading did. I also remember doing some of this in highschool. Overall I thought the information was good to know, but not interesting to read.

Problems on irrelevant information

The reading was intersting to me, because it told me of quite a few ways that a person uses to base their information. The Guilt by Association and the Ad hominem were the most interesting to me. As I read the reading, I thought of ways that people use these things in everyday life.

First reading of Book

I thought that the first reading in the book made a subtle point to how we should make our writings. I think that it meant that we should make our writings so that the reader can make an image of what is being said. The more something is made to be seen by the reader in their mind, the more easily it can be understood. I think this is what novelists convey. The paintings and pictures explained in the reading give what the book referred to as composition which I thought was interesting. I saw it was neat how the book related art to reading and writing.
