Introduction
Welcome to English 106, Introductory Composition. In this class you will effectively learn the importance of academic and professional writing styles. Writing is an effective tool because it allows you to explore many social, cultural, and academic situations. English 106 seeks to accomplish the following goals: first to provide the training essential for you to develop your abilities in reading and writing; second to provide experiences in the study of literature that will enhance your personal, intellectual, and cultural development; third for graduate and professional schools as well as for careers in education and various professions requiring a strong background in communication skills. The theme for this semester’s course is titled “Writing Your Way Into Purdue.” The course outline will center on this theme as the semester matures. By the end of the semester you should gain an insightful experience that continues your positive momentum at Purdue.
