Team 13 Week 7

White Paper Project Blog: Research Begins

So we ran into a couple of road blocks this week before we got back on track. Originally, our group decided to do our project on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which supposedly was designed to close the pay gap between men and women. But after doing more research into it, we realized that there was no real pay gap when all factors such as maternity leave, skills, education, and hours worked were taken into account for men and women. When everything was computed, there existed a 2-3% pay gap between men and women.

So, last week as well as this week was a bit confusing. Our topic had to be changed and we had to create a new idea. This was hard because we already had a good start on our first idea, so coming up with something new was a bit challenging. This week I believe that we have gotten a really good start on what we are going to write our white paper. We met in the Hicks library to discuss our outline and how we wanted to go about writing it. We accomplished that as well as who was going to do what part of the project and we have started on the actual paper research part.

So far we seem to be moving along in this project a lot faster than I thought which, needless to say, makes me very happy. Things started off a little bad, by which I mean we had to completely change our project topic since it turned out we didn’t actually have a problem with the first one we suggested. Aside from that setback though, we’ve already decided who’s going to do what. We met on Wednesday at 2:00 at Hicks (although I showed up a little late due to a different commitment) and quickly started mentioning ideas of how we wanted the project to go.
