Team 6 Week 6

Team # 6 Elisa Midle

My group has been working really well together on the White Paper Project. We have decided that meeting every Tuesday in person is the best way to make sure that everyone stays on task. We also decided that any issues not resolved in the group meeting can more than likely be accomplished via e-mail and Google Docs. We have decided that the best solutions to the problem at Almost Home Humane Society are to apply for federal grants, raise adoption costs, and raise public awareness on the responsibility and cost of pet ownership.

We began working on our white paper project, focusing on the first group deliverable, the topic proposal in memo format. We all gathered research material in order to formulate possible solutions.

As we begin working on our first assignment for the White Paper Project, the memo, and as we begin developing an outline and a rough draft we have narrowed down some solutions to this problem that the Human Society in Lafayette has. The Almost Home Humane Society has recently decided to not accept owner-surrendered animals any further due to overcrowding and high operating costs. As a possible solution for this, I was assigned to research a possible increase in the prices of pet adoption to generate more revenue allowing for funds to correct this problem.

The first two sources are for Humane Societies currently allowing the surrendering of animals. The Indianapolis, Indiana Humane Society not only offers the surrendering of animals during normal office hours by appointment, but also has an open door policy. According to their website, The Humane Society of Indianapolis has an open admission policy. We accept animals regardless of their temperament, health status, origin, age or breed. Even when space is limited, animals brought in will never be turned away, but the surrendering patron will be made aware of the limited space.
