Topical Proposal: Immigration

Illegal immigration is a huge problem in the United States. Coming from California, it is on the news everyday and it seems like nothing is being done. Granted there always is going to be a great influx of immigrants coming across the border illegally. However, we could consider making it easier for them to become citizens, which would allow us to tax them.

Topic Proposal: Becoming more Eco-Friendly at Purdue

I wanted to do an idea about being Eco-Friendly for the white paper project. This project would help raise awareness about this topic and get Purdue to be more Eco-Friendly. Being Eco-Friendly is not just about recycling but going beyond that. I have already done some research about this in other classes and I have a lot of interest in it. We are already becoming more Eco-Friendly by having light bulbs that are more efficient and cleaners that are better for the environment.

Topic Proposal: File sharing of Music and Movies

With the recent attempts at cracking down on the sharing of MP3's and Movies online, I would like to investigate the actual effect of file sharing on the sale of CD's, online MP3 downloads (Paid for), and Movies as well as the legality or illegality of sharing files and whether electronic data can be considered property. It seems that the recording industry has attempted to use legal force rather than to investigate the actual effect of file sharing on the industry and look for a long term, realistic solution to the problem.

Topic Proposal: Copyright freedom

I am really interested in a topic I have already read about that discovers another aspect of copyright last ws. I just want to take that idea one step further and discuss the idea of laws that deal with freedom of speech and the right to publish certain "types" of language in the United States and around the world. This topic is still open but maybe can just be collaborated with the other copyright group!

Topic Proposal: Eco-Friendly Purdue

My idea for the white paper project is to raise awareness and try and get Purdue to be more Eco-Friendly. This would mean going beyond just recycling. I have already done a little research, and there are special light bulbs that are more efficient, and environment safe paints and cleaners. I am sure with more research I can find more things Purdue could implement. This project idea can also be tied in to Project 3 for the class. There are several environmental organizations here at Purdue that might be interested.

Topic Proposal: Wal-Marts Effect on the local community

The largest private retailer in the United States has ruined many small business and put a lot of people out of work. Wal-Mart might the lowest prices always but at what cost to the community and the economy?

Topic Proposal: The Death Penalty

While thinking about a topic for the white paper, I decided I wanted to do something that involves an ethical issue that everyone will have an opinion for. I chose the Death Penalty. There are currently 36 states that still have a legal death penalty. I think this would also be an interesting topic to research because it is normally a hot topic within the media.

Topic Proposal: White Paper Project

Immigration has been a hot topic in the post couple years. One of the largest obstacles that is present is the language barrier. This obstacle couldn't be more evident in the field of construction. Construction requires an immense amount of communication. As of the past few years the passage of this vital communication has been lost in translation. I propose that we work to find solutions to slow down this continuously increasing dilemma.

Topic Proposal: Cloning

Cloning is a contemporary issue that is becoming more possible everyday. We could talk in more detail about human cloning and what ethical issues that brings up and also what it can be good for. With all of the information out there on this topic we will be able to see both sides clearly. There would be three possible solutions to this the ethical issue of cloning. The first being that the research and funding for human cloning would be put to a stop completely. The next would be that they start researching more the problems with the cloned person before any more experimentation.

Topic Proposal: Adressing Threats To Civilization

As technology develops and mankind evolves, we tend to forget that the world we live in is always at risk of being changed in some way. Most people dont realize the constant threats we face on a daily bases that could change the world as we know it. I feel that a topic such as the reversing of the magnetic poles would be very interesting to write on. Just to give a little background on this, every 600,000 years or so, the earth's magnetic poles reverse from north to south. It has been well over 800,000 years since the last reversal, which means we are overdue.
