This is a reading response to the reading on collaborative group writing. I like the way that this was written because it doesn’t try to sound extremely serious like other writings i.e. we’re focused on business and business only and not going to try to enjoy doing the project together. The final part mentions that workplaces are expecting people to be able to work better in groups and the days of the “lone scientist Igor” are gone. I thought this was a good point, but not really a problem for me or most of the people I know. My generation (based on my personal experiences and other research I’ve read) is more group oriented than the previous generation so most of the time there isn’t too much conflict as long as everyone put in a good amount of work. I especially liked the part that says “finally, the group should meet one more time, preferably someplace where something tasty is served inexpensively. You can unwind, talk over old times, and officially disband the group here-as long as someone has taken responsibility for making sure that the paper gets turned in”. Although I realize that as a group we have a job to do, in order for me to be inspired to do my best and feel completely satisfied it’s nice to have a friendly relationship with the group members and to be able to ask them how they’ve been doing or just sit around and relax. I hope that this will be something that I can continue doing in the real world to create that balance of friendship and hard work that a lot of places seem to lack in my opinion.
