While I was reading this document I was just assuming that the author had written these things for a reason, that someone had done these things. I understand that some people may want to impress with some nice paper for their resume but I agree that it's unnecessary. If i were an employer looking at a resume on a high-gloss, cardstockish piece of paper I would automatically assume that this person already has plenty of money and doens't need the job I have to offer.
I typed my resume in Times New Roman the first time. I don't have a problem with it at all but I guess as an employer if you're looking at the same thing over and over again it would get pretty old. I only changed mine because I needed it to fit within my already stretched margins.
I too agree that tiny font and grey font should be banned. There is really no reason at all to write in grey. Use black, it works best. At least that's how i feel. I see no need whatsoever for decoration on a resume. None at all, as far as I'm concerned I think it would look very unprofessional unless you're in design or something.
I'm not sure why you would ever put your resume in a horizontal format. No one wants to read that, so why write it that way?? As far as different sized paper is concerned, I'm sure I could fill some larger piece of paper but employers have to read enough so why make them read more. Plus, if they have to unfold your resume to read the whole thing they're probably going to think you're a complicated overachiever.
I guess I'm glad nothing the author wrote about really applied to me. I can see people with resumes that these 7 sins did apply to being offended but really I'm not sure why (other than the font) you would do any of them in the first place.
