I feel that the reading for this week and the project we have been working on have both been extremley beneficial for me. First, because the SMEF career fair was this week and the readings gave me good tips and ideas for improving my resume and writing cover letters, and second because the project has forced me to work on my resume and make sure that it is done well and done right. The reading about the cover letters was especially significant to me because it shows that your resume , cover letter, and entire application process is only as good as its weekest part. The cover letter is what the employer will usually see first, and first impressions are key. If the cover letter is "junk" then your entire application for the position is thought to be "junk" as well. This has made me take a more careful position on writing my cover letter. I will spend a lot of time on it and review it both by myself and also have friends review it for me before I submit it. The article has given me specific techniques to use in reviewing and editing my cover letter. It's really easy to say you want to write a good letter or resume, but its usually very difficult to know exactly what you can do to make it good (cutting out words etc.). These ideas and specifics will help me with the construction of my letter.
