When I read the article Build the Resume Employers Want I received a good insight into what employers are looking for in a resume. Since the employer can receive up to hundreds of resumes for one single job, I have to try to make mine stand out and be more distinctive then the rest. The article starts by breaking down the resume into a couple of sections that will help me better organize my information and what I want to write. First, I learned that importance of an objective that is clear, to the point, but specific at the same time. It also should be tailored to the company you are writing for, not just a generic objective that is supposed to be used for every job you apply for. The next step of the article talks about your education and how that section should be formatted. I learned that if you do not include your GPA along with your educational information, then most employers would assume you received a less then 3.0. This was something I was unaware of and will be helpful when I write that section. Related coursework should also be included with the education section since it will help employers see that you have the knowledge for the position you are applying for. After the education section, you should then write about your experience. The important part of this section is that it should be quantifiable and specific about your accomplishments. I realize that past resumes I have written where not very specific in my experience section and lacked the quality it should have. It is important that you try to make even jobs like in the fast food industry to your advantage by wording them correctly and relating them to the job you are apply for now. These were just a few insights I gained from reading the article.
