I found that the reading of “Online Remark Can Now Sink Job Candidate” was very helpful when dealing with trying to get a job. This article hits very close to home with college students in today’s culture. The idea that whatever you post online can come right back to get you in your job search is a very scary thing to think about. A simple joke you may have put online while you were a freshman in college could easily cancel you out as a candidate for a job. I have heard of this idea before for friends of mine. They have told me how they make their facebook profile invisible while they are job searching to avoid this problem. I fell that this form of investigating can also be problematic for people with common names. It seems as if a company might be trying to look up information about person named Andrew Jones, it could be very easy to miss up which one they are looking for since it is a common name. My generation and generations to follow need to make sure that although something might seem like a great idea at the time it can easily come back to bite them in the end later on in their life. I have always been careful with what I post online because of cases such as the one in the article but I know that it is easy to forget about a post you may have made and that post could prevent you from getting the job of your dreams. Just remember that when you write something online it is no longer private, but instead it is open to the world to view and even though your friend might think it is funny, your future boss will not see it in the same way.
