During my time in high school and my early years here at Purdue, I generally just wrote in a way that I'd describe as taking my thoughts and writing them down with no real editing going into them. When I applied for an internship a couple summers ago at a home heating and natural gas comapany, however, I realized that I had to put more time and effort into editing my writing, and actually writing rough drafts before turning in my final product. This would give me more time and flexibility in determining the strengths and weaknesses of what I had written and allow me to sound more intelligent, professional, and confident. I had to teach myself to write an aplication letter in a matter of a day or two. I managed to get the job, but to be honest, I really don't think that my writing skills improved that much as a result. I can see that I have much room for improvement for my writing flexibility in taking this course. Applications for future jobs should go much more smoothly for me.
