For the first week's readings, I really liked the Guidelines for Proper E-mail and the one on Suck-less Writing. In a world consumed by Facebook and Myspace, the art of proper correspondence had been lost. So many times we send e-mails or messages to our friends without out using proper grammar or spelling. This becomes a habit and many people have forgotten proper etiquette. Often we write out one line messages or use abbreviations like BTW or LOL. The Guidelines for Proper E-mail serves as a good reminder for today’s young professionals about the art of correspondence.
I found the Tips for Suck-less Writing reading was geared towards creative writers over professional writers. However, I still found the article to be a bit beneficial to myself. I often stress out while writing a paper and don't produce my best work. The stress often leads me to ramble aimlessly for pages and use useless clichés. This reading helped me to realize how writing can be made fun. I learned that if I plan ahead and don’t procrastinate, stress won’t accumulate and I can create a better paper. I also learned to write first and edit later. Often times I do both at the same time. I learned that this could also be contributing to my mediocre work. This article taught me tips that I can use to greatly improve my future writings.
