In the past, my writing style was either one of two ways. It was either creative and casual, as in poetry or letters to family and friends, or very straight forward and bland, writing projects for English classes. It wasn't until I applied for my first summer internship, at the Cincinnati Zoo, that learned that solely using either one of these styles would not do well in the real world. I learned that to make a successful cover letter I would have to blend both styles together. My letter would have to be professional but not dull. It would have to be attention getting and creative but not too casual. I had to create a style that was creative and attention getting but professional and straight forward. I knew that the person in charge of hiring interns would receive hundreds of applications for only a few positions. I knew that I had to present myself in a positive light and keep the reader interested in my letter and even more interested in myself. From that first experience with writing for the real world to today, I feel that I have created a writing style that is adaptive for any situation.
