Throughout my life there have been numerous times where I have had to write for a specific audience. One particular instance I remember was when I was working at my dance studio. I was the receptionist and I was asked to compose a letter to the students parents informing them about costumes and competitions for the year. I found this to be a lot harder than I had originally thought because I really wanted to sound professional and mature. I was only 17 but I wanted to appear just as competent as the older teachers at the studio. I also did a lot of proofreading after I wrote the letter because I remembered my mom reading these letters when I was younger and laughing at the typing errors she found. Writing a letter that was addressed to parents was definitely a new experience for me, but I think it helped me really think about who I was writing for and how they would view my writing. It taught me that even though I was young, as long as I wrote with professionalism and intelligence, I would come across as capable and knowledgeable.
