This week we didn’t have any readings because we had our client based service learning project presentations. It was an easy week and a nice way to wrap up the semester. Presenting came pretty easy for my group; we knew our topic very well and were comfortable discussing what we had done for the class. We went first, so after that we were just able to sit back and relax. It was interesting to see the other groups present, as I noticed that all but one group made a brochure, and the group that didn’t do a brochure did a mailer. My group did both a brochure and a mailer. It seems like the most common business writing that our class found to do for our clients was to create a mailer or brochure for them. It would make sense that brochures would be popular, as they are effective and easy ways to get information out quickly. Also, mailers would be popular to create for clients because they can be written formally and are a good way to raise money. I noticed that one group in our class did the same topic for this project as they had for the white paper – D.A.R.E. They made four different parent information brochures to try to get parents more involved in the drug prevention program. Another group did advertising for Von’s, which was interesting and cool to see that they were doing something to help a store located near campus. Two other groups did projects to help organizations on campus; one did the Boiler Volunteer Network and the other worked with an innovations/new inventions club. I personally had a lot of fun working with our client and I was truly interested in creating documents that would be beneficial to them. I have been a soccer player for 12 years now, and have refereed the game for seven years. In my hometown in Michigan, soccer is much more popular and there are many more teams and players involved in it. I hope that with our documents, the GLRSA is able to grow and expand their club as well as fill the needs they currently have.
