This week, we read about oral presentations. I know that a lot of people hate giving speeches and presentations, many have the attitude "why do I have to do this, it's not like I'll ever have to do this again". However, presentations, speeches, and general communication skills are things that will be used regularly if not everyday in the work force. I have had some experience just in my 5 month internship in giving presentations. I had to lead weekly meetings, present to the Architects and Owners of my job what was flawed in the blueprints, and even give a safety presentation to veteran construction workers. If you think a board of directors is a tough sell, wait until you try to sell working safely and wearing the required safety gear (goggles & hard hat) to construction workers that view you as some punk that has no idea what construction is about because he just went to college and went into the office. These weren't the only times that I had to basically give oral presentations. Whenever I had to call a supervisor, subcontractor, architect, owner, engineer, etc. Everything I said was really part of an oral presentation and communication. In business, every thing you do is based around communication, of which, there are only 3 - Oral, Type, and Body. These are very important skills to have, and thus a great reason to try to perfect them in class.
