For this reading response, I focused on the PowerPoint which talks about brochures and flyers. Since my group is mainly focusing on brochures and different types of flyers, I thought it would be good to review the PowerPoint and gain some valuable tips. I like how it states that your selling message should be on the cover of a brochure. The first thing people will see on a brochure is the cover, and it is critical to catch their attention. The PowerPoint also states how it is important to select the right photographs for your brochure that will tell a story. Visuals are very important in brochures, because people don’t want to have to read all text. It also states how it is important that the brochure have a purpose which calls the audience to action. A brochure is much more than just a packet of information; it is a document that is trying to convey an audience to do something. It is essential to include any necessary dates, locations, costs, etc. What I found interesting is that you don’t want to use a lot of words in your brochure. Visuals are what stick with the audience, so it is important to keep the wording down, and photographs catchy. That is not saying that the content is not important, it’s just people are so attracted to visuals, so it’s important that the brochure sticks out to them. These tips will definitely come in handy when editing my group’s brochure. The flyer section in the PowerPoint is pretty much straight to the point. For my group’s project, we are creating three different “mini” flyers. They’re actually guide sheets that will go into a bin in which people in other communities will use in helping them create their own “De-Trash the Wabash” Event. Though, our documents are a little different than a flyer, the style between the both are pretty much the same. It is important that pictures are used, while text is straight to the point. For our information sheets, we put out a good design with a few different graphics, and added a little more information than a regular flyer. These sheets are intended for the audience to actually read, which is why they have more detail than a regular flyer. Everything else was pretty much a review of what I already know, but it was a good to refresh on that information. Overall, this PowerPoint really helped me out by giving me great tips about how to create good brochures and flyers. I will take the information on the brochures more into hand, seeing that there was a lot of it in the PowerPoint that I did not about. I am looking forward to seeing how my group’s brochure turns out, and hopefully our client will like it.
