This week’s reading was about plagiarism, copyright, and ethics. Plagiarism is something that everyone should be fully aware of at this point in college; however, it is still being stressed everyday the importance of not doing so in colleges. The consequences of plagiarism were put into our heads at a very young age. What better time to teach a person about something so important than at the time a child is a learning sponge. Even then, people today are still plagiarizing even after all the warnings and teachings of the matter. Some you have been caught plagiarizing may not have even meant to do so, but even then, still have to suffer the consequences. It is always important to give credit where credit is due. Other people have worked very hard on their works and it’s not fair to steal that from them because it is just that…stealing. The article gives some helpful pointers that might help people from plagiarizing. Here is a list:
1. Always credit others’ contributions to your work. Don’t claim, as your own, work that you have not done.
2. Be willing to share your work with others to promote the development of knowledge and the good of society.
3. You can use others’ work, in appropriate ways, to inform your own work.
Although, citing your sources may seem a little tedious and sometimes annoying, it is something that absolutely needs to be done whether it is inside your writing or at the end of a paper that you have written.
The readings also talked of ethics and unequal treatment. This is a topic I could discuss all day long and it’s unfairness that even today, women are still being paid less in the workplace for the same job/position.
