One of this week’s readings discussed plagiarism, copyright, and using the work of other’s fairly. As we discussed in class on Wednesday, plagiarism seems so avoidable with just the use of common sense, but it occurs frequently. Many times, people can plagiarize unintentionally. This could be because they are not fully educated on the exact material that requires citing. Other times, people may plagiarize purposely. I obviously cannot say why people might do this, but it could be attributed to laziness or the thought that they might not be caught. Most all college-aged students should know the guidelines and expectations regarding citing sources and crediting other authors, but maybe further educating writers on not only how to properly cite, but the seriousness of the consequences of not citing sources would help to prevent plagiarism (both intentional and unintentional).
Another section of this week’s readings covered the issues of gender in the workplace. As a woman looking to enter the professional world, I appreciated the relation of respecting gender differences to ethics and social responsibility. I also think it is great that many companies and organizations take the initiative to show that they do not stand for discrimination or harassment. Maybe this will eventually lead to an equal distribution of jobs and salaries among both genders and all races.
On the whole, I enjoyed this week’s readings very much and found them to be very educational and interesting.
