The document on plagiarism was a nice little refresher course on citing and crediting work that is not our own. This was a very good article, because I do believe that people need to understand what plagiarism is. However, personally, I found the article to be boring, because I am sure I am not the only student in the classroom that, after finding out we were going to be reading about plagiarism, said to himself “Are you kidding me? Another one of these?” I guess I have just been hearing about plagiarism for years. The same information thrown in my face over and over again does get boring. However, I know it is necessary, because there are some people out there who just don’t get it, because they copy others’ work. The second article I read was about gender in the workplace. I despise hearing about the problems women are having in the workplace. I read that on average, women make less than men. That is frustrating, because I believe that overall, women actually take more pride in their work than do men. Second, I read that women have fewer positions of authority. Again, this is frustrating. However, I do know that women are taking on an increasing number of authoritative roles in the workplace. I am glad to hear that women are becoming more and more established in the workplace. In the beginning of the article, I read about stereotyping. This is a huge issue that we all face everyday, and as the author of the article said, stereotyping truly does hurt everyone involved, including the organization. We all need to focus on avoiding these problems, especially in the workplace.
