This week we did not have too many readings which I am glad since my group has been working hard on our final project. I had to read about copyright, plagiarism, fair use of others’ writing, gender in the workplace, and ethics editing checklist. The first three parts were really important to read. It is something I will be able to keep in mind doing other papers. I had an idea of what certain copyright and plagiarism meant but the readings went into more detail which was great. This in sum is making sure to give credit where credit is due. I did not however really know what fair use of others’ writing was. I learned that the fair use provision explains why it is ok for you to go into a library and copy an article out of a journal for your personal edification but, it is not ok for you to copy that article in order to make and sell copies of it for your own commercial gain. The fourth part I had to read was about gender in the workplace. I already knew some about this. I did find out some interesting gender differences. First, women earn less than men do for their labors. I think this is horrible and it makes me really upset. Second, women hold few leadership roles in business. Which again I don’t think this is right because men and women should be treated equal. Third, women are thought to manage differently than men do. I agree with this because men and women have different instincts. Fourth, men and women are taught to communicate differently. I also agree with this statement. The last thing I had to read was the ethics editing checklist. In this reading I learned some of the obligations to think about while producing a professional document. There are five principles which are the following: obligations to other writers, obligations to collaborators, obligations to persons represented in the document, obligations to the facts (fair and accurate representation), and obligations to the organization. By using these principles it will help you keep in mind the ethics while producing a professional document.

I also agree that the readings about plagiarism were very informative. It is nice to know exactly how to go about researching and writing our document.
