This week’s readings and videos proved to be very helpful as I began creating our formal proposal that is due Monday. First we read a lengthy article on “The Ten Rules of Effective Writing.” This piece was useful because it mostly addressed how these ten rules apply to advertisements and our group project involves advertising for Von’s Shops. On Wednesday I had to discuss the rule that I found most intriguing, rule nine. The ninth rule talked about the power of rhetorical questions as a persuasive tool, especially in advertising. The next assigned reading was another piece on writing proposals. This one seemed to be the most useful and provided several examples that truly helped me understand how a proposal is supposed to be setup and what it should contain. In the middle of writing our proposal I went back and reread this article, which made me realize that I made several key mistakes within the proposal. Another reading assignment from this week was all about the ethics involved with professional writing. This article will be relevant throughout the rest of my life in college and business. It is always import to consider these ethical issue as you write any document, in order to keep yourself out of trouble. The last assignment that I completed this week was watching the video on the 5 Steps to Project Success. This video explained how to effectively work on and complete a project with a company. This recording simply and clearly stated 5 important aspects of working with a client that are necessary to complete a good project. This week we also learned how to create a Gantt chart by reading directions and watching a video. All assignments this week were relevant to creating our proposal and very useful.
