This week’s resources were all very helpful. After watching the two YouTube videos, I feel much more comfortable and ready to create a Gantt chart and manage a team. The Gantt chart YouTube was especially helpful because it explained how to create this chart in the new Excel 2007. Also, it was very detailed, and it answered the questions and eased hesitations that I had about Gantt charts prior to watching the video.
The “5-Steps to Project Success (Seriously!)” YouTube video was not only very entertaining (and slightly bizarre), but it was also very enlightening. I enjoyed the tips he provided and the play-on-words he used to present them. Plan the work, and then work the plan” stuck out in my mind, as well as “Figure out what business you’re in, and then mind your own business.” I strongly agree with the majority of what he discussed, and after watching this video, I feel more confident about the steps to take while working with a team.
The “Social and Cultural Issues” article on PWOnline was helpful as well. I agree with the “Ethics and Professional Communication” section and its emphasis on the importance of audience(s). There certainly are going to be different types of people that read a piece of work, which is why I like to see that this article presents the audience members as the plural “audiences.” The audience should always be evaluated and considered when writing anything, and I think this article does an effective job explaining that.
Overall, the readings and resources were very beneficial this week and quite relevant to our work. I enjoyed most all of them, and believe that they will help me to better achieve a successful teamwork experience and project outcome.
