Compared to recent weeks, we had a lot of readings to look at this week! The majority of them were about writing proposals and how to work in a group, but one was about being ethical and one was about how to write so people will feel involved. I watched the video on YouTube of the 5 Steps to Project Success, with the man who changed face masks every time he changed steps. I thought it was a kind of dumb video, but I guess it did get the points across and what he had to present was valuable. The changing masks just may not have been necessary. I feel that my group is already working pretty well together, as we stayed together from the white paper project and have now been able to start work on the client based service learning project. Another YouTube video we watched was about Gantt charts, which I have never seen before. Although I didn’t pay much attention to the video the first time I watched it, I’m sure my group will be referring back to it to write our next deliverable, the proposal. I have never written a formal proposal before, so this will be a learning experience for me. A few other readings will really help us out with the proposal as well. The reading from Online Technical Writing webpage was useful in its discussion of proposals, and I’m sure our group will be referring back to it. The webpage also talked about different kinds of proposals, which we really looked at in last week’s reading. Another reading for this week was the Luntz chapter, which I thought was pretty interesting and had some good examples. We broke it down in class and discussed each of the ten ways to make your reading more readable, which will help when we write to relate to our client and produce a document that satisfies them. Out of all the readings this week though, I have to say that the one from Pearson Education about ethical communication seemed the least helpful. I feel that a lot of what they talked about was common sense and stuff I have heard before. I understand that in this project, we will be writing something that a lot of people will read. I don’t think it will be hard to keep things unbiased and nice-sounding, as we are not writing about controversial topics or anything like that.

I think that these proposals will help our groups stay on track. All of this reading has been a great start and will hopefully allow our projects to run smoothly.
