This week the readings have been really helpful in preparing our memo and proposal for the third project. We broke up into groups during class on Monday and each group was assigned a section to read. Then we got back together and talked about each section. This was really helpful to be able to see what other people thought were important in the readings. I learned a lot in these readings that will prove to be helpful in this third project. One thing I never even heard of was solicited vs. unsolicited proposal. Solicited proposals are where a company or client has already identified a certain problem or need. It also typically describes that need in an RFP which means “request for proposal.” The company collects these proposals and makes a judgment about which contractor provides the best response to the RFP. In a solicited proposal, you don’t have to persuade the reader of the significance of the problem. A solicited proposal focuses on the proposed solution to the problem and on the plan for developing and implementing the solution. On the other hand in an unsolicited proposal, a company or organization does not necessarily recognize a need or problem. In this instance the proposal focuses on the need or problem. In the reading there was also a section on content and organization of a proposal. This I think is going to be the most helpful although there is no typical proposal. I read that visuals are a high-impact way to include evidence in your proposal. Your proposal should have plenty of visual support, especially in table form which should be clearly labeled and numbered. There were also a couple examples of what a proposal should look like and will be very helpful when my group starts to work on ours. Having an example to look of while working on our proposal helps us know if we are doing things right. I look forward to working with my group on the project.

I agree, I think that these readings will be a great reference to look back on as we begin writing our formal 2 page proposal to our client.
