I don’t think our group will have any problem whatsoever creating a selling point for The Candy Bar. As far as persuasive nature goes, I don’t think it will take too much. When Jessie first said let’s do the Candy Bar the rest of us were like where is it? I know we have all been here at Purdue for a while and have been on Chauncey, so not noticing that there was a Candy Bar right next to the Den is a pretty clear sign that their publicity could use some work. This is why I think they already know that they have a significant problem and it needs work. Whether we do a flier, pamphlet or coupons I think our efforts will be to their benefit. It sure wouldn’t hurt. I realize that some people think college students are slackers, but if we show up with a professional front I think we will be able to overcome that stereotype quickly.
I really do think they will find worth in this project. It will help them directly and it won’t cost them anything. It should matter to them because, coming from a small family owned business, I know that advertising is expensive so if some kids randomly want to do it for free we wouldn’t even ask questions. If we tell them that this is a project that we are doing for a grade I think that should clear any skepticism. We can’t afford to screw this up, because our grade depends on it, so they shouldn’t be worried about it either. I’m not worried about our professionalism because I know we can pull that off. What I am concerned about is that we don’t know their backgrounds. We don’t know if they are college grads or high school drop outs so I just don’t want to go in and try to look too professional and intimidate them. Running a small business doesn’t require a college degree, it only requires smart money managing, marketing skills and lots and lots of hard work. I just don’t want to come across as arrogant like “we’re college students and we’re here to save your business.”
