group 13 blog week 14

This week our group met on Wednesday at 6:30 to work on the pamphlet for our client. Basically what we did was go online to the Purdue Innovations website and try to take photos that we felt would best represent the organization as both professional but also as an organization that students would be able to get into. So far we seem to be running on time, and I think we’ll have everything done slightly earlier than we expected.

Effective oral presentations

While I glancing at the tips for how to give a good oral presentation I saw a lot of things I was pretty familiar with. By this I mean, make sure you have a good delivery, provide an agenda, use an outline, encourage questions from the audience etc.

reading response plagiarism

This is a reading response to the plagiarism and ethics readings. The plagiarism article brought up a lot of good points about the problems with plagiarism especially in colleges. At this point in our lives the vast majority of us should have a general understanding of what it means to plagiarize. Even in junior high we got explanations that if you copy someone’s writing word for word and put it into your own that not only will you risk getting an F, but you’ll also be committing something that’s illegal.

Group 13 blog 12

So far we’ve managed to progress along nicely for this project. We’ve made up our mind on which organization we want to contact which is Purdue Innovations. John contacted them on Wednesday and so far they seem very excited to work with us. All our meetings were conducted in class this week, but due to the different schedules of everyone some things like the Gant chart and the proposal draft have to be done outside of class.

Reading response 12

This is a reading response to part of the Luntz reading. I read rules 3 and 4 and felt that they both made a lot of good points. Rule 3 ephasized the importance of not flip-flopping on an issue and I completely agree. A lot of politicians and speakers in general can lose credibility quickly when they flip flop on something. It’s one thing when you feel strongly on one issue, find out more information, and then change because you realize your views were wrong and it’s another thing when you change your mind because the opposing side seems more popular.

Reading response 11

This is a reading response for the explanation of how to do a proposal. Reading this has given me a good idea of where to begin in terms of doing what I think the hardest parts of this project are going to be: contacting an employer and then setting up a proposal. This reading gave detailed explanations of how to format everything so it comes across in a professional manner so that when I do submit it for a potential customer that even if they decide not to accept our proposal they’ll at least be impressed with our layout.

Possible Clients

The two clients I’m considering so far are Borders Books or for the co-rec. The project for Borders would essentially be a marketing campaign to get readers from all levels, especially college age, into the store to increase their reading of books. The reason why I think this might be a good project is because a lot of college students I’ve noticed are usually so busy reading textbooks and doing projects, that they rarely have time to read. Even those who do have time to read would rather use that time to watch t.v., play videogames, or go to the bars.

reading response 10

There isn’t much to comment for this reading response in terms of content so I suppose I’ll comment on how I feel about the upcoming project. I’m actually pretty excited about it because it will be something that’s real-world and will give me actual experience in working with a company as opposed to having us simply write a few more papers to kill time for the next few weeks. I’ve already got a few small companies in mind that I’d like to consider for doing something related to marketing.

Reading response 8

This is a reading response to the reading on collaborative group writing. I like the way that this was written because it doesn’t try to sound extremely serious like other writings i.e. we’re focused on business and business only and not going to try to enjoy doing the project together. The final part mentions that workplaces are expecting people to be able to work better in groups and the days of the “lone scientist Igor” are gone. I thought this was a good point, but not really a problem for me or most of the people I know.

Team 13 project blog week 8

Overall we got done with the project rather early despite some major setbacks. One of our group members, Chinedu, hasn’t been seen since last Friday. We’ve emailed him and attempted to call him several times but haven’t gotten any responses. I don’t know if he dropped the class or simply hasn’t felt like calling us back, but we were in a state of confusion on how to proceed since we hadn’t heard from him. Fortunately, we were able to move on and still get everything finished on time.
