Group 11 Blog Week 15 - Last Week!

This week was the final week of our client based service learning project. We were glad to get the final documents turned in and the presentation taken care of, because it is one step closer to the end of the semester!

Last "reading" response!!

This week we didn’t have any readings because we had our client based service learning project presentations. It was an easy week and a nice way to wrap up the semester. Presenting came pretty easy for my group; we knew our topic very well and were comfortable discussing what we had done for the class. We went first, so after that we were just able to sit back and relax. It was interesting to see the other groups present, as I noticed that all but one group made a brochure, and the group that didn’t do a brochure did a mailer. My group did both a brochure and a mailer.

Presentation Readings

The readings this week were from PWOnline, and talked about how to present in formal and informal settings. A lot of the information was already summarized in the PowerPoint about giving effective presentations that we talked about in class on Monday. I think it’s helpful that we will be presenting our client deliverables to the class before we actually give them to client, it will be like a practice run. Also, we can practice for it and make sure we’re discussing everything we needed to.

Working on Deliverables

This week our group started working on the deliverables for our client. We have decided to make a brochure and mass mailer for GLRSA, so they can get more publicity in the community. They have a lot of areas they need help in…they said they can always use more players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and sponsors. We are focusing on all of these things in the brochure. The mass mailer is being written in a way that it will be sent to potential sponsors so they can have more information about GLRSA and make a decision about whether or not to sponsor.

Plagarism and Gender Readings

This week’s readings were mostly about plagiarism and ethical writing. This seems like we are beating a dead horse, as I’ve heard about plagiarism what seems like a hundred times over. I think these readings would have been more relevant for our white paper project, but maybe not so much for this project. But that may just be true for my group and not everyone. I know in the white paper project my group paid a lot of attention to making sure we cited sources and credited where we got our charts and pictures.

Group 11 - Delivering the Proposal

This week was a great week for our group. We are on the right track with our project, and know exactly what we have to do next. The proposal was written on Sunday night by Cedric and Eric, as agreed upon by our group, since it was already understood that Filip and I (Lauren) would be out of town and not able to meet with the group. Eric and Cedric did a great job with the proposal. Cedric had taken notes when he and I met with Mr. Cupp last Thursday, and he used those to help write the proposal.

Group 11 - Securing the Client

Our work on the third project this week was a little scattered, to say the least. At the beginning of the week, we were still not sure of our client. It wasn’t until Wednesday that we finally had our client secured, and we then had the task of figuring out a time to meet up with them. Our client is Greater Lafayette Recreational Soccer Association. Because the week was drawing to a close, we weren’t able to find a time to all meet with the client. Instead, on Thursday night at 8:20pm, Cedric and I (Lauren) went to meet them.

Lots of proposal readings!

Compared to recent weeks, we had a lot of readings to look at this week!

Proposal/Project 3 Readings

This week we did not have a lot of readings, though the ones we did look at were very relevant to where we’re at in the third project. On Monday, we discussed the reading about proposals, and how to write one based on the goal you’re trying to accomplish. This was important to look at before we really got going on the project, because we would need to make sure we stated what we wanted to do in a convincing way that was tailored our specific needs. This reading was long, but it was nice to break it up in class and really go over it.

Project 3 - Group 11

This week was the first week of project three, the client based service learning project. My team from the white paper decided to stay together to work on the last project, which makes it easier to get things started. Also, we worked really well together on the white paper and already know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and are comfortable working together. Since we already have all of the “getting to know each other” of group formation out of the way, we were able to get right into working on the project.
