Presentations

This week we did not read anything new but instead we watched presentations of all of the groups. I really thought the group that did the tax flier for LUM did a wonderful job. Their presentation went really well and they presented their document in a very professional way. Overall, I think all of the groups did a decent job and the documents they produced were also very well done. Some were simple and some were complex but overall everyone did a good job.

Presenting Professionally

This weeks readings have been mostly on presentation styles and the restrictions and guidelines to follow when presenting. We are reading this because we will all be presenting our document to our customer for our class project very soon. The thing I learned most from the reading was the 2 different presenting styles; formal and informal. In the reading "Informal Oral Presentations" I learned a lot about the differences and importance of informal and formal presentations. Before reading, I always assumed that there was mostly one presenting style and that was formal.

Finally Rolling

Our group has finally got the ball rolling. We are working for vision of hope and have had all of our criteria laid out for us so far and we are now in the process of putting everything together. This week we delegated the responsibilities to all of the group members. Michael and Josh are working on the words that go into the brochure while Kimberly and Derek are working on the design of the brochure and how all of the elements are put together. We have only had a few minor problems so far.

Plagiarism and Sexism . . .

This week there were not many readings but the readings we had have great significance. The first reading was "Copyright, Plagiarism, and Fair Use of Others' Writing" and it talked about what the title describes as cheating and plagiarism. I knew all of this information before because teachers of our past have drove it into our brains not to use other's work as our own without citing it. Plagiarism can be very specific and very gray at the same time.

Writings, Videos, and more . . .

This week there has been many different medians of knowledge such as a very long text article, some you-tube videos, and some PWOnline readings. I'm going to start with the text article known as "The Ten Rules of Effective Language" by Luntz. This article was huge but had many important points. As a class today we went over the article but I am going to state some opinions about the article and ask some questions I had after going over it. In summary, the article gave ten (actually eleven) rules to effective language usage.

Proposal in Real Life

This week we read about proposals and what they are and how they are used. I found it very interesting and it applied to my life because I currently have an internship where I am painting homes in the area and I offer each customer a proposal every time I go out and give a free estimate. It was very interesting to see it on paper and apply it to real life as well. Overall I think this next group project is going to be great because it forces us to go out into the real world and do a real life proposal to our client.

Client Possibilities

For this client based project I have come up with two great organizations to work with. The first is a new organization in Lafayette called Vision of Hope. This is a faith based organization that shelters, feeds, and mentors women who are struggling with issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, unexpected pregnancy, suicidal tendencies, and much more. I think it will be great to provide a service for this company because I feel that what we do will have a huge impact on people's lives.

Reading for Service Learning Project

This week we mostly presented our white paper presentations and turned in revisions from the first project. The only reading that was required for this week was the project description of the service learning project. After reading this project description, I have become excited about accomplishing this task. I have some great clients in mind and am excited to work for them. My only wish and concern is that we had more time to complete this project.

Project Blog for Week 9: The End is So Near

Our group is now in the final stage of editing our paper so that a clean copy can be turned in on friday morning. This week everyone contributed a lot to the final aspect of the paper. I put the other's sections of the paper together into one peace and worked on the design of the paper. The other group members looked over their section for clarity and grammatical issues. Our group meets after class everyday and decides on what needs to be done by each person.
