White Paper Project
Project Log (Week 7)
Posted May 4th, 2008 by schumbleThis week in class we were placed into groups for the White Paper Project. Then after getting together and deciding on a topic for the White Paper we completed a group - authored story post for the subject we plan to write about. As a group we decided to discuss Peer-to-Peer File Sharing. Also, during this week we discussed more sample white papers and how effectively or ineffectively they were written.

Project Log White Paper Project
Posted March 25th, 2008 by dog_lover_12345Our group met tonight for several hours to finish putting
together draft 2 of the white paper. We had several things that were our
main focuses: adding examples of open source software programs to the
history section of our paper, expanding on our analysis section of our paper,
adding a case study of a business using/important to OSS, and adding graphics throughout our
paper. We ended up expanding our paper by 8 pages, including a table of

Posted March 24th, 2008 by dog_lover_12345Last week, week 10, we received the commented on version of the first draft of our paper on OSS and small businesses. The general prognosis was that while well written, our paper needed more examples or case studies included within it. This would effectively allow the readers to see how other businesses in similar situations have implemented OSS and what the end results were, allowing them to picture themselves doing something similar.

Use of Visuals
Posted March 22nd, 2008 by dog_lover_12345Discuss at least two kinds of visuals that you plan to incorporate into
Draft 2 of your white paper. What kinds of information will be presented? How
will these visuals communicate information in ways that text might not be able
to handle as effectively? How will these visuals enhance your target audience's
understanding of the issues you address within your white paper?

Project Log
Posted March 4th, 2008 by dog_lover_12345Project Log one: Summary of work for weeks 7 and 8
The first few weeks our group worked on choosing a topic of interest to
everyone in the group, and then doing background research to come to a better understanding
of what that topic entailed. We decided that the majority of the group
would be most interested in finding out more about how open source technologies
are affecting the business world.

Reading Response 4
Posted February 15th, 2008 by rraylAt first glance I was a bit nervous about the white paper project. I guess nervous isn't the right word because it wasn't like it was the only thing I had been thinking about all day. It's more of a nervous because of how unfamilar I am with white papers, as well as open source technologies. The most challenging part of this project for our group is going to be deciding what our potential target audience is. We have the idea of talking about the open source alliace and also new cell phones that will have open source capabilities. We're just unsure about the target aud
