Project Log White Paper Project
Our group met tonight for several hours to finish putting
together draft 2 of the white paper. We had several things that were our
main focuses: adding examples of open source software programs to the
history section of our paper, expanding on our analysis section of our paper,
adding a case study of a business using/important to OSS, and adding graphics throughout our
paper. We ended up expanding our paper by 8 pages, including a table of
contents. Our current draft is nearly ready to be posted, however we have
plans to edit the draft and add a paragraph or two to the conclusion tomorrow
before posting it. We worked very well as a team tonight, splitting the
work as necessary, and then working together as a team where needed. It
was amazingly smooth and we are confident that our final product will be of
some use to small businesses looking for information on OSS and businesses. It will provide not
only examples and background information, but also information about a few
specific programs, some sources that will help them with the deployment of open
source should they decide to implement it, and with the actual decision making
process when considering switching to OSS.

Project Log week 12
We haven't received any word as to the status of our second draft yet, so have not gotten together as a group to work. At the point that we receive our graded 2d draft, we will get together to work on revisions, taking into account the current grade and comments in order to fix our draft in all of the appropriate places, creating the best possible final product.
Week 13 project log
I should have placed all of my project logs for this project together, and am realising this now.
We haven't met as a group for several weeks as we have been waiting for the second draft copy of our paper to be returned. We were pleased as a group with the feedback and grade that we received on the second draft. We are working now on setting up a meeting time sometime early this coming week, or over the weekend, in order to work more with our draft to improve it. We intend to incorporate more images into the first half of our draft. We will be discussing during the meeting where exactly these images would best fit. We were considering adding screenshots of the programs that we talk about within the background/history section. We may include a chart or two that outlines the main advantages and disadvantages of OSS, so that readers that are visual and are simply scanning the document for pictoral or heading information will see that chart and still be able to pick up some of the main points of the paper. All of this will be further discussed/incorporated at the next meeting.
We also intend to go through and fix the grammatical errors within our paper. We will be adding paragraphs that further describe graphics after each of the added graphics, as it seems that we were weak on explaining the vast majority of our graphics. Basically, it is just a matter of meeting and improving our paper, and then submitting the next draft.
Week 14 project log
A subset of our group met yesterday after class to go through our paper and fix the issues that were addressed in the feedback from draft 2. We went through and added images to the first half of our paper, including screenshots from the various OS programs that we included, as well as a chart between the advantages and disadvantages sections that summarizes them and puts them in a visual manner that is accessible to the audience and good if we have readers that are simply scanning the document for information rather than reading through it from end to end.
We also added some information around our images in the final half of our paper, in an attempt to better explain how they play into our paper and argument. We also did a little bit more research about OpenOffice's Writer, in order to expand the section on that program to give a little more information. Finally, we will be putting together the next copy to be turned in over the weekend, hopefully submitting the copy by Sunday morning for further revision/grading.
Week 15 Project Log
We submitted our final copy of the white paper on Monday afternoon, after reviewing comments and suggestions again and making necessary changes to both format and content. We received the final feedback email today. Having received an "A" on the project, we are now considering the project successfully completed and submitted.
