Policy Analysis & Example In-Class

By the end of class today (April 4 or Monday at beginning of class) analyze the policy example found on the calendar. Since this document is quite large--as most policy manuals are--restrict your analysis to sections 1.1-1.5 & 53.1-53.1.6. Look for the following aspects of manuals (hint, I would suggest double-checking Pwonline):

1. Completeness: Does the policy cover the issue thoroughly?
2. Design: Is the document readable? Why or Why not (use examples)?
3. Ethics: Is the policy fair and reasoned towards all parties that might use Library resources?

Editing Extra Credit

For Weds, if interested, run this through a level of editing & design principles. Create a bulleted list of the errors you will find on a separate sheet. Or, if you would like the practice, you can use MS Office Track Changes.

Knightcite Citation Machine: Personal Interview Option

(A note from your sub for class Wed. Feb. 27, 2008)

Greetings,

Just a note to let you know about the question - in class - about Knightcite and personal interviews. Knightcite does have the option to enter information about interviews. Unlike APA, MLA requires that you cite unpublished interviews. Therefore, MLA recognizes three types of interviews:

  1. Published or recorded interviews
  2. Interviews broadcast on television or radio
  3. Interviews conducted by the researcher

Annotated Bibliography Update

Dear Class:

Let’s still plan on having the Annotated Bibs Drafts due this Friday. Remember these are not complete documents, so do the best you can. I would suggest trying to get as much done as possible, though. Updates to the overall White Paper project will be forthcoming.

Extra Credit Opportunity

Offer a well-written 2 page critique of one of the extra White Paper examples (posted to front of home page). Use a combination of writings in the Coursepak and PWonline to help with your analysis. Is the WP effective? If so, why? If not, why did it fail? Make sure you comment using direct examples from the WP and course readings.

Final Due Date, March 17th at beginning of class.
