Blog 6: Man of deception

When the words strong, leader and passionate are thrown around, more times than not the person being described is a positive figure. These terms are used to describe heroic figures that are always looking out for the interest of the little man and trying to make a positive impact on the world. When these words are used to describe a person that is pure evil and out to make the world worse, only bad things will follow. Hitler is the perfect example of how all of those words apply to him but does not fill the role of hero in the slightest bit. The documentary Triumph of the Will, directed by Leni Riefenstahl, shows exactly how Adolf Hitler grew to be such an imposter among the German citizens.

In class, we watched a clip from the film where Hitler is talking at a rally for the younger members of the German race. While speaking, Hitler never shows weakness. He will never doubt anything he says and will speak with such conviction in his voice that it is hard to not believe everything that comes out of his mouth. Hitler is arguably the most evil man that has ever walked the earth, but had so much support and so many followers that it was hard to see. As horrible of a person Hitler was, he was also a very smart man that knew how to manipulate people and get his way. He was a charismatic man that used his trustworthy look and powerful words to capture the trust of others. Looking from the outside and knowing exactly what Hitler was trying to do, it is easy to say you would not fall into his traps, but to many Germans, it was not easy at all. This is especially true to the younger members. Being taught their whole lives that Hitler is a leader and knows what is best and never given a chance to make their own decision is hard. The way Hitler spoke to the mass amounts of people that would come to show their support to him was a way that would make anyone want him as a leader. His words are so powerful and his message is seemingly so positive any person would seem foolish to not believe every word that came from his mouth. Hitler knew that if he has a large following, he would only grow because people will conform to the popular idea. The way kids look at Hitler is in a father like manner because he is saying that he is doing all of this for the bettering of the German race. Hitler wants the younger population to believe in him all their lives so he has a strong group of males when they grow up and will loyally follow him no matter what.

Although Hitler is a terrible person that acted in the most cold, heartless ways, he showed qualities that are not typically seen in men such as him. Hitler acted in ways that showed him to be strong, passionate leader looking to make Germans the perfect race. It is hard to say that the German citizens were in the wrong by following him due to the way they were manipulated into believing he was such a good leader.
