Fahrenheit 9/11 is a documentary about the security of the United States, the catastrophe that happened on September 11th, 2001, the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and all the tributaries. Some people did not believe what Michael Moore, the creator of the Fahrenheit 9/11, was true or the entire truth, therefore they made a documentary of their own called FahrenHYPE 9/11. Who is telling the truth? Both sides are telling what they believe to be the truth based on their sources.
In the beginning of Fahrenheit 9/11 it shows the footage of President George W. Bush being told, “The second tower has been hit, we are under attack.” President Bush calmly remains seated and appears to be staring off into space, before he opens the book and reads along with the children. Michael Moore scrutinizes that both World Trade Center towers being hit by airplanes wasn’t a big enough event, or act of war, to excuse yourself from a kindergarten classroom. To contradict this, the second documentary says he did the right thing by staying calm and cool to collect his thoughts before acting in a rash manner that might scare the children. President Bush is commander and chief of a nation under attack, and he has the audacity to sit and read a story with kindergarteners. Is both World Trade Center towers being attacked by hijacked airplanes a good enough reason to leave a classroom abruptly, even though it might frighten a few children and some adults? To the common person any act of war is a substantial reason to justify the abrupt evacuation of a kindergarten classroom (Rhoads). Surely they would understand when they receive information of the circumstance at hand. The next big discrepancy is about Osama Bin Laden’s family being picked up by commercial planes during a period when all aircraft are to be grounded (Moore).
Michael Moore states that within the next week Bin Laden’s family members had been escorted out of the country. He then asks what would happen if Bill Clinton would have escorted Timothy McVeigh’s family out of the country a week after the Oklahoma City bombings? Would America stand for that? Absolutely not, but FahrenHYPE 9/11 claims that Bin Laden’s family had been questioned and there was nothing they needed from them at that time. It is understandable to let them go, but not leave the country where they will probably never be seen again if they were involved in any way with the attack on New York City, the Pentagon, and the plane that went down in Pennsylvania (Moore). Michael Moore states that he gets his information from an article of a national newspaper, while FahrenHYPE just has a Bush supporter saying that the information is false and that Bin Laden’s family was not picked up until all aircraft were allowed in the sky again. So who is telling the truth? Michael Moore cites a newspaper article as his reference while the other side doesn’t cite anything. When was the Bin Laden family picked up? There was not a date stated by either side; therefore the viewer makes up their opinion on who they think is more creditable, not by facts. Fahrenheit 9/11 says that the Bush family has connections with the Saudis, so they wanted to get them out as soon as possible.
