Borat is a reporter from Kazakhstan on his way to the United States. He does not speak very good English and he does not understand all of the freedom everyone has in America. He offends a lot of people by the way he acts and the words he uses without refrain. Borat does not understand the culture of the U.S. and often challenges people’s beliefs.
In one scene he is rents a hotel room and tries to negotiate with the receptionist. He does not get the concept of a price for the room is final. The manager tries to take him to his room, but when they get in the elevator he starts to unpack as he thinks that is his room. The manager tries to tell him that his room is down the hall, before he could finish Borat yells that he will not accept a smaller room. When Borat finally gets in his room he thinks he is in heaven. He sits in a chair and pretends he is a king and is ordering people around. This amazes me because I do not realize how much we have compared to some people around the world. When someone thinks it is awesome just to have a chair in the hotel room, then I often forget what it is like to have little to nothing like some people live everyday.
Borat goes to a yard sale and insists that the owner is a gypsy. She keeps assuring him that she is not but he insists that she is a gypsy. She said she is a Midwestern farmer’s daughter, all American. Borat ignores her and say that she has many treasures; he wants to know who she robbed to get them. He tells the gypsy that he will look at her treasures; he finds a doll and asks who the lady she has shrunk is. He then finds more dolls, therefore he tells not to shrink him and that he is serious. He is almost done looking through the yard sale items when he finds a book and wants to know what spells she has. The lady ignores him once again and he finally leaves the yard sale.
After driving around lost, Borat decides to ask five white guys standing on a porch throwing dice, for directions. They make fun on Borat and crack a few jokes on him when he tells them he is looking for California. He tells one of the heavier set black males that he looks like Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. All the other men on the porch start laughing, then Borat asks the guys to show him how to dress and if they could teach him to talk like they do. The guys get Borat to wear his pants below his waste as he tries to get a room at an upscale hotel. He tells the man at the counter, “What’s up wit it vanilla face, me and my homie just parked our slab outside. We are looking for somewhere to post up our black asses for the night, so bang bang skit skit nigga. We just a couple of pimps no hoes.” This gets him kicked out of the hotel and the cops were almost called on him.
