Here is a copy of my annotated bibliography. It is the first one I have ever done.
1. “Jamaica Kincaid.” Concise Dictionary of American Literary Biography Supplement: Modern Writers, 1900-1998. Gale Research, 1998. Reproduced in Biography Resource Center. Farmington Hills, Mich.:Gale, 2008. http://galenet.galegroup.com/servlet/BioRc
Jamaica Kincaid was born on May 25, 1949. Her birth name was Elaine Potter Richardson. Her real father never played a role in her life but her step dad did. She has three half brothers. She was taught how to read when she was only 3 and half years old. She wanted to go to college in Antigua, her country of birth, but she could not since she was a girl, and her family was poor. At the age of 17 she came to New York to work as an au pair. She took classes at Westchester Community college, where she completed her high school degree. Kincaid writes about social issues in most of her books. Her first book was At the Bottom of the River. It consists of 10 short stories. Kincaid wrote several books including Lucy, Autobiography of my Mother, and her latest book Talk Stories.
I think this source is pretty unbiased, because it comes from Gale Net’s Biography Research Center. It is also a very helpful source in providing information about Jamaica Kincaid, but we are doing this paper on Lucy and not Jamaica Kincaid, I think it is only a little bit helpful.
It helped me a little in writing my paper. It supplemented the argument a little bit by pointing out various things in the story that I missed.
2. “Jamaica Kincaid.” Contemporary Novelist, 7th ed. St James Press, 2001. Reproduced in Biography Resource Center. Farmington Hills Mich.: Gale, 2008. http://galenet.galegroup.com/servlet/BioRc
This article is about Jamaica Kincaid. It discusses her books: Annie John and At the Bottom of the River. Which are apparently about mother daughter relationships. The article goes into great depth in comparing various Kincaid works including the 2 I have mentioned, Lucy, and Autobiography of Mother. Annie, Gwen, Lily, Pam, and Tulip is a book she wrote that is about 5 girls. In the book there are pictures of the girls naked. It also states that most of Kincaid’s work mirrors her real life.
I think this is source is unbiased as well for the same reason as the first one. The reason being it came from the Biography Research Center. It is a better source than the first one for, this paper, because it goes more in depth on the topic of Lucy.
I used this source in my paper, because it provided some very strong insights that supported my argument.
3. "Answers to Your Questions About Sexual Orientation and Homosexuality." American Psychological Association Online. 2008. American Psychological Association. 25 Apr. 2008
This article is called “Answer to Your Question about Sexual Orientation and Homosexuality”. It is a site with a bunch of question about sexuality. Some of the questions that are asked are: What Is Sexual Orientation? , What Causes a Person To Have a Particular Sexual Orientation? and Is Sexual Orientation a Choice? The website has a bunch or questions like that. The one I used in my paper was: What Causes a Person To Have a Particular Sexual Orientation? The answer was they do not know but there are environment, cognitive, and biological factors that play into it.
I think the source was unbiased. There was no evidence in the source, that I saw, that was meant to persuade people one way or another.
This was a really good source for my paper because it provided scientific theory to my paper that agreed with previous statements I had made.
4. "Busting the Kiddie Porn Underground" Geraldo. 23 Feb. 1989. 25 Apr. 2008
This is an interview with Jesse Friendman and Geraldo Rivera. It is from the Leadership Council on Child abuse and Interpersonal violence. The interview took place on Geraldo’s show, Geraldo, in 1989. In this interview Jesse admits to physically and sexually abusing children.
This was a very bias source. The website is run by a council that is trying to prevent child sexual abuse. Compared to the other sources this was by far the darkest, but it was very helpful.
This is probably my most valuable source because Jesse Friedman admits guilt for these crimes.
5. Paramichael, Stella. "Capturing the Friedmans." BBC- Films. 6 Apr. 2004. The BBC. 25 Apr. 2008
This is a film review done by a woman, Stella Papamichael. She works for BBC films. She really like the film and gave it a perfect 5 stars. She really loves the wild ride Jarecki takes you on as you watch it. You never know what is going to happen next.
This was a bias source. The author is a film critic. It was also very helpful
This was important piece of my paper because it strengthens my own personal believes. So it fit well with in the paper.
