We watched the documentary called Grizzly Man in class. It was about a man name Timothy Treadwell. He was basically crazy. He spent 13 summers in Alaska living with grizzly bears. He filmed what I believe to be, the last four summers of this. In his thirteenth summer in the wild he and his girlfriend were killed and eaten by bears. The reason he was with the grizzly bear was because he thought he could save them from poachers. He thought poachers served a major threat, but if you watch the film you will notice there are very few scenes where there are other people. You notice the people that are in film are not even poachers. It does not make any sense why an average built man has to protect twenty of the most terrifying beasts on the planet.
Timothy apparently was a drug addict and he went to the wilderness to find himself. When he got there he fell in love with the grizzly bears. He decided they needed his help, but in reality he needed them more than they needed him. He actually put himself in a very dangerous situation because he was alone with grizzly bears with no weapons. Also it was dangerous to interfere with the bears because they would view people less cautiously which endangers nearby humans. It was dangerous for the bears because he interfered with their food supply. He did this by controlling the flow of fish that passed through the nearby stream. This was bad for the bears because they will not be able to capture their own fish when they need to. This too put people endanger because they bears will think humans will help them with find food. When the humans do not then the bears will eat them.
They do not have video of Treadwell being eaten by the bear, however Treadwell did try to film his last interaction with the bears, but he forgot to remove the lens cap on the running camera. So they do not have visual tape but there is audio tape. One of Treadwell’s friends owns the tape, and she allowed the director listen to it. They audio tape was not played during the film. While the director was listening to the tape his face was not visible, but the person he was in the room with was visible. The director actually narrated this film, and he gave several opinions on various issues throughout the film which made him come off a bit egotistical because he made himself a character in this film about Treadwell and he did not ever know Treadwell.
This film was made from home video of Timothy Treadwell alone in the wilderness. It also contained interviews and pictures from friends and family of Treadwell. The home video showed more than just Treadwell’s interaction with the bears. It also shows Treadwell’s emotions towards society, authorities, and women. I do not know if Treadwell was emotionally unsettled as he was portrayed or not. The director may have shown the only portions of home video where Treadwell act like this. If I had to guess I would say he was actually unsettled because he chose to live among grizzly bears.
