in class

Earlier this week, I asked students to log in and post lists, in groups, of what they expect from a good communicator. Then, they had to respond to someone else in class. They had all posed ideas and commented on ideas before we even began class discussion, which was a great way to get discussion started. They enjoyed this activity and they were interested to see who had said what (since they don't know aliases yet). Worked well.

Here's something else: As a pre-writing activity, students can use the blog to react to the newsgaming activity. Students who might feel shy participating in class discussions may feel comfortable using the blog.

Reading journal responses

Reading journal responses could be posted for students to respond to each other.

Blogitty blogitty blog blog

You could use a blog to track a running discussion of an issue, from when it is introduced at the beginning of class and formulated primarily by opinion and present knowledge, and then do updates on the blog that develop from discussion, research, various points of view, etc...
