Strengths and Weaknesses

As a writer, my strengths lie in my creative ability. My favorite part of writing has always been to take something that is already beautiful, whether it is an existing work of art such as a painting or another inspiration in life, and be able to write so that others that were not able to see the work could imagine its beauty. I love that writing is entirely creative and no two people will ever write in the exact same way. Writing is one of the only places where we can be unique, where no one else can be exactly the same and have exactly the same thoughts. In high school, I spent a lot of time in English class analyzing other works of art, such as literature, so one of my strong points is being able to look at a novel and tell you why it is good. Not simply that it is, but what types of development makes it that way. As far as weaknesses go, I think one of my main weaknesses is my use of tangents. Oftentimes, I find that I know exactly what I want to say, but I can’t come up with a clear way to say it. Therefore, I circle around my point for quite a while before I am able to pinpoint exactly what I would like to say. I would like for this class to help me be more concise and be able to get to the point in a more efficient manner.

Ah, I love writing those

Ah, I love writing those type of things! I forget the proper term, but I like drawing inspiration from other sources and writing poetry. My favorite poet is Sylvia Plath. She's so raw and her words hit you like a brick. Pity she took her own life. I would have loved to see more of her work.

We did this amazing project in high school as well. We had to do a pastiche of Beowulf. It was pretty much the coolest thing ever.
