Monday and Wednesday Presentation

Allison, your project was really interesting. I never really thought about being in a long distance relationship before, I just thought it would be too hard, especially in college. I liked how you talked about all the different ways that people try to make it work though, definately cool and innovative.

Andrea, you had a really interesting topic. The only thing is that sometimes you could clarify on the topic more specifics on the illness and what you are trying to learn about it.

Scotty and Darrin, I think of all the projects so far your's is my favorite. I never really thought about pirates in real life, especially in our time, so it was interesting to see that they do exist, and it really is a serious issue. I really liked how you put together a powerpoint with narration. It felt almost like a documentary. You guys had some great images to go with excellent narration and facts.

Kayla, Rob, Ashley, Kelsey
I thought you guys had a really interesting topic. Especially at Purdue, where so many are involved with some sort of Greek life, it'll be cool to see some insight on how brothers or sisters involved feel about it. I liked the video with the party vs. what it's really all about concept. Only suggestion is to maybe edit a little more for sake of smooth transitioning in the film.

Kyle, Matt, Colin
You guys did a really good job with the powerpoint. It's too bad we couldn't see the videos. I'm sure they would have made it even better. Also, it's good that you chose this topic because I think a lot of people are relatively lacking in knowledge about the truths about gang life, and consequently cannot get to the root of the problem.

Monday and Wednesday

Allison: First off, I just have to say wow, it really looks like you put a lot of effort into this project. Each slide was packed with tons of interesting information, and I loved how you organized it all. Basing it all around the two couples and the stages of separation is a brilliant idea. One thing I always enjoy about projects like this is when I can see that someone is absolutely in love with their topic, and I really got that impression from your presentation. Your passion for the topic made it all the more fascinating. I've never been in a long distance relationship (come to think of it, I've only ever been in one local relationship, and that ended two years ago), so I think I learned a lot. I'm sorry that I can't come up with any helpful suggestions.

Joey: Great topic, important topic, and it's great that you're using your talents as a reporter to do something a little different for this project, but I really need to see more of the finished product before I can give any constructive criticism. I am curious, though, what was your original topic? I'm sure there's a good reason it didn't pan out.

Andrea: You know, in the early planning stages of this project, I seriously considered doing this same topic. I've always been fascinated by mental illness, and I have had several family members with such afflictions. But as for your project, I love that you're doing a journal. My favorite projects so far are the ones that closely resemble something that a person in the group you're examining would actually create (like Emily's). One thing you need to make sure of, though, is that you keep it realistic. You don't want your patient to turn into an offensive caricature.

Scotty and Darrin: Oh my god, weren't these guys amazing? Their project was so masterfully put together with such brilliant writing and narration that I don't think I'm worthy of criticizing them. Beautiful job, gentlemen.

Kyle, Matt, and Colin: You guys have a great topic, and I admire your clever method for embedding a Youtube video into your Powerpoint. It's just a shame we couldn't watch them. Right now, it looks like you're hitting all the marks pretty nicely. I think the aspect of your project that you should focus the most on, however, is the motivations of these gang members. I'm definitely not saying you neglect this idea, I just think it's the most important thing to look at with a topic like this. Other than that, the Powerpoint looked great, and I'm sure it would be even better if we got to see it how it's supposed to be seen.

Kayla, Rob, Ashley, and Kelsey: Rob, how did you end up in this group again? All kidding aside, I thought you guys did a fantastic job with your film. I know how much work goes into making something like that, even one as short as yours. That being said, I think I'm still heavily prejudiced against people in fraternities/sororities. It's strange because such intense and unflinching prejudice goes against basically every single principle I stand for. You see, I rarely hear people in fraternities deny the stereotypes that films like Animal House and Old School reinforce. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure plenty of studying gets done in those houses and I'm sure most frat brothers aren't date rape fans, and I'm definitely sure some good comes out of fraternities, it just seems like if the stereotypes were, in fact, false, I wouldn't hear so many frat brothers talk about something besides sex and drinking (and no, I'm not making this claim based solely on what I hear in the media, there are plenty of conversations I've overheard in various location on campus that support this). It seems like, more than anything, frats project that image of themselves out to the public, and the media just enhances it. I do always love to be proven wrong, though, so go for it.

Wednesday/Friday Presentations

Scotty/Darrin: VERY VERY well done. While i felt your project was your presentation, i still was intrigued. The transitions were smooth and the use of media was very well done.

Kayla/Rob/Ashley/Kelsey: I like the topic you pick. My only concern was that you were completely negating the stereotype... which is, usually, the truth. I felt the presentation was more on what frats were supposed to be. But I've spent enough time in a frat house (my boyfriend was a Sigma Chi at Hanover College) to know that the stereotype is more often, than not, the truth. I've seen his door kicked in, slip and sliding down the hall way, etc. While I like that you want to portray a better side, I don't think you should just deny what does go on in the frat. Recently, at Ball State, they installed cameras around most of the fraternities to keep an eye on activities there. There's a reason for that. I hope your final project will have a balance of the truth and intents.

Kyle/Matt/Collin: I enjoy your topic and was shocked to learn just how young it starts. I really felt your guy's connection to the project and the research was very well done.

Amber: I enjoyed your interesting topic. I love the format its very creative and it sounds like you put a lot of work into it and research as well.I liek that you covered the history and today as well as showing contrasts.

Austen: I loved the honesty of your journal entries. I really felt they conveyed a sense of reality. My only concern is the cohesiveness of your project and how the powerpoint will work with your journal entries.

Melissa/Morgan/Megan: I loved the website. It seems very thorough and informative. The format is super creative as well!

Thanks for your input you

Thanks for your input you guys! Darrin, no worries, I'm really happy with the way it turned out! Thanks!

friday, monday, and friday project comments

Sorry I got these out kinda late...
Friday:
I enjoyed the presentation of polyamous bisexulas...hopefully I spelled it correctly. The way of life is very interesting to hear about and their take of love is something that is also very interesting.

Monday:
The project about long distance relationships was awesome. Being in a long disatance relationship myself I understand everything that you were saying and agree whole-heartedly. The project about mental illness was also interesting because of my time in PSY120 and it was just really interesting to hear all of that.

Wednesay:
Scotty and Darrin you guys had an awesome topic and an awesome presentation. Loved every minute of it. Kayla, Rob, Ashely and Kelsey you guys picked a good topic as well. Being in a fraternity I now know how people feel about us and can see how wrong those perceptions are.
