My family's Easter traditions
So for as long as I can remember, my mom's side of the family has celebrated Easter together. My immediate family are Christians, so we would go to church and then for lunch go to my grandparents' house. My two uncles and their families have not always been Christians, some are now, so we would just meet them there. There are four grandchildren, my brother and I and our two girl cousins. My grandma would "hide" eggs all over the yard and we would run around and grab them. We would be color-coordinated and there would be change or candy in the eggs. Inevitably my grandma would forget where she hid an egg or two, or the change wouldn't work out the same for all of us, so she'd pull out some more and make it even. Soon the easter egg hunt evolved into a scavenger hunt where my grandma would hide clues that specifically related to each of us and we would follow them around the yard and house until we found our big easter basket. The last few years we've just been given the gifts and haven't had to hunt, haha. Then of course we'd eat some yummy meal of ham and mashed potatoes and other amazingly delicious dishes.
This year my grandparents are in Florida and won't be back this weekend for Easter. Then I, the oldest of the grandkids, is in college and was just home in Indy for spring break. So this year will be different. My parents and brother will go to church and maybe celebrate a little, I don't know if they will get together with my uncles or not. I have been invited to go home with a couple of my good friends here at school, so I'm going to do that. It will be different, and I'm sad that it won't be like usual, but I think it will still be fun. And wherever I am, I can still worship and appreciate Jesus Christ who came, died for my sins, and then defeated death, all so that I can have Salvation and live with Him in Eternity.

Easter is my favorite Holiday
To me Easter tops all other Holidays. I am Catholic and it is the biggest celebration in the church, even bigger than Christmas. My family and I would normally go to church on Thursday night to celebrate the last supper and Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. We then would go to church Friday afternoon to remember his death. Then Saturday night we have a huge Easter vigil with a ton of candles and singing and those who have prepared all year finally enter the church and become official members after being confirmed and receiving the Eucharist. This year will be a little different since I am at college. I will not be home to go to mass with my family on Thursday or Friday. I actually have a test on Thursday night and am not even sure if I will be able to attend mass here at school. However, after attending service on Friday I will pack my bags and head home to the farm, where I have not stepped foot for almost 6 weeks. (I spent spring break in Honduras). Saturday night we will go to mass and then Sunday we will head to my grandparents for a huge celebration and meal. My mother has six siblings. These family get-togethers include almost 75 people and are a ton of fun. After the meal we will all head to the back yard where Grandpa has hidden eggs. And I mean everyone goes. My 40 and 50 year old uncles will be pushing and shoving to get to the eggs first. However, these aren’t just any eggs. They are loaded with cash. I cannot wait to go home for Easter and see my family. I hope everyone else has a great holiday.
Easter Sunday=So much ham and easter candy!!!
I agree with both of you in that I have always grown up with Easter being a HUGE deal. I am also Catholic, so this week is pretty important to us in the Church. I mean the Triduum, the three days before the resurrection are probably the best time for me to think about how I have lived my call as a Christian. It is a pretty emotional time, and it gets pretty tough to realize that this one man gave his life so that all of us, and i mean everyone not just Catholics or Protestants, can live with Him forever. But after this time of reflection, Easter Sunday is a day of rejoicing for my whole family. I also have a big family like Megan, about 70 in all. So when everyone gathers and prays over our food and share what is really important, family. I have a lot of friends staying up here at Purdue for Easter, and I really thought about it too. All the work awaiting me seemed to be the most important. But when you think about it, there is always time to get some work done, but there are very few times I get to spend quality time with people who really really love me, and people I really really love. I really can't wait to wake up and share some good fun on Sunday with my brother and sister and mom and dad, and all the other important members of my life in one place. I really believe that every year at this time is when my faith really starts to peak, and all the rest of my life tries to maintain that peak. I truly believe that Christ gave His life for us, and I believe that He is the reason for our lives, to love Him and thank Him for all the things he has bestowed upon us.
God Bless and Happy Easter wherever you may celebrate Him!!
