A Blog Topic

So I was thinking, what with Easter this Sunday, if you would like, write about your family's tradition for Easter. Whether you are going home, going to church, having a family get together, looking for eggs, eating chocolate, or doing nothing in particular at all. Have at 'em!

Easter Plans

I can't believe it is already Easter! It seems like it is coming really early this year. Well, the forty days of lent are about over for all of us Catholics, but needless to say, I didn't do so well on the whole sacrificing something for lent. I really tried to give up sweets and pop all together, but then it just changed to I could have it on the weekends....I know, cheating, right?
But anyways, I am going home for Easter because my Grandma always has a huge meal and Easter egg hunt. I will be going to church Sunday morning with my family and then later that afternoon, I will be going to my dad's side of the family. My dad is one of seven kids, so there is 20 of us grandchildren my grandma has to cook for. She never lets any of her kids any food to share because she thinks she has to do it all by herself. Crazy, right? But, that's my grandma for you. After we eat, we always have any Easter egg hunt for all the little kids. I guess we older ones are too cool to go outside and hunt Easter Eggs. But it is always fun to see my little cousins get so excited when they find an egg, and if they are lucky, my Grandma and Grandpa put money in it along with candy. Other than that, I'm not doing much this weekend...I am going to have homework though...not really looking forward to that :[

easter

Ah... Easter. Such a great time of year. It really just brings a smile to my face. All I can think about when Easter comes is the fact that its SPRINGTIME! On Easter morning, usually my family wakes up and we go downstairs to see what the Easter Bunny has brought us from the night before. Our baskets are usually full of yummy candy and usually either a movie or a cd. I get excited about my Easter basket because my favorite Easter candy is inside it. My all time favorite Easter candy is the classic Cadbury Eggs. My second favorite candy is the Reese's Peanut Butter egg. While getting the Easter basket is always great. My family goes to church on Easter Sunday and its always a refreshing ceremony. I love Easter Sunday because it feels more holy then Christmas itself. Which is hard to believe considering Christmas is like THE holy holiday. But I feel as though Christmas is so desensitized by society that it has lost some of its holiness. Anyways back to Easter, after church my family usually goes out to brunch with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins. After a nice brunch and catching up with everyone my family goes home and just relaxes and we let the rest of tick by as we watch a movie or just sit around and talk. It really is just a great day because while it represents so much in a spiritual way, it also is a day my family just focuses on each other.

Easter

I think everyone out there, particularly the Catholics, will agree with me when I say that the single most important thing about the Easter holiday is the Cadbury Egg. I'm kidding, of course, don't be offended. But seriously, aren't they the greatest candy ever created? It was Tuesday during Spring Break when I went to store and bought a good $20 worth of Cadbury Eggs. Let me tell you, that was $20 well spent. They were in packs of four for $2, so I got forty eggs. I was also low on mouthwash in my apartment here at Purdue, so I decided to buy a bottle of it with all of my candy. I thought that was an amusing juxtaposition. It was 3:00 in the morning and I was very bored, you see.

As for Easter traditions not associated with Cadbury Eggs, my family always did the usual "go to church, then go to grandma's for egg hunting, etc." The past several years, I was one of the people hiding the eggs for all of the young (roughly 2-12 years-old) nieces, nephews, and cousins. My favorite thing to do was always to hide a green egg right in the middle of the lawn. Because the grass isn't really long, or even all that green this time of the year, it never fooled them, but I always thought it was funny and clever. And there was only candy in these eggs. I wouldn't want to support giving the children cash at that young of an age. Gifts of money are alright, I guess, but I don't think money has any place in an activity like egg hunting that's supposed to be all about having fun. It just seems wrong. But anyway, this will be the first Easter that I'll be away from all that. I really didn't see the point in making that trip home, particularly when I was just there for a week and also when I have so much homework to do (like the rough draft for project 3.) That upset my mom a little because she's a really devout Catholic, but I think she understands.
