I'm not going to lie...

So I'm not going to lie, I'm really excited for spring break. I mean, not only is it a week break from classes, enclosed by two weekends, but I'll be doing something super cool. I know it's going to be cold, and the entire point of a college student's spring break is to be warm, but I'll be spending mine in Chicago. I'm going on a inner-city mission trip with Campus House to work with the poor, homeless, and otherwise needy. And it's going to be insane. Not only are we discussing current issues in places where they happen (immigration in Chinatown, prostitution in Boy's Town, etc.), I'll be helping! Most of the days will consist of service work and of truly learning about how people suffer and what we should, and can, be doing to help. I seriously cannot wait. My hometown is only a short drive from Chicago and I know that I will never look at the town the same way again. However, not only am I excited about spring break, I'm even more excited about this summer. For three weeks, I'll be spending some time in Uganda. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to spend some time in Africa, and in less than three months, I'll be there! I'll be working with Compassion International and the children that are sponsored by the program, teaching them and helping to build them a schoolhouse. I have no idea what to expect, but I'm positive that the experience will be nothing short of amazing. So, in short, I have some things to really look forward to, and when I come back to the states at the end of May I'm probably not going to know what to do with myself. Anyone else really excited for spring break or summer plans?

I sponsor a compassion child!

Wow! I sponsor an adorable little boy with Compassion International! His name is Pedro Josue, and I've been sponsoring him for nearly six years. He's turning ten this june, and I can hardly believe it.

Again, I really admire your charitable activities. You have a big heart, and it's inspirational to see how much difference one person can make.

thats so cool!

When you decided to sponsor a child, did you just log on to their website and go through there? I think I'm going to look into sponsoring one Smiling

Child Sponsorship

Actually, I am from Colorado Springs, where they are based, so they came and did a sponsorship fair at my church and I took one look at Pedro and decided I didn't care what I had to do to make the money, I was going to sponsor that little boy. I have his pictures framed at my desk. He's so flippin cute! His little letters make me cry. He always draws me a little picture and traces his hand for me. His mother wrote me a letter once too because the money you send actually helps the entire family. It provides training for the parents to find employment and provides basic needs (like food) for the entire family. Compassion is a great company to go through for child sponsorship.
