Thankful for a week away…
Sun, 03/16/2008 - 21:48 — amberscheidMy spring break was far from exciting. It didn’t give me a tan, it didn’t consist of going out or dressing up, but it was a week that I needed to catch up on sleep and give my mind a much needed vacation. For spring break all I did was go back to my hometown of Rochester, MN. Aside from being sick for the ten hour car ride there and battling a fever and congestion for the following four days, I enjoyed being home.
how far can knowledge go? what can we believe?
Sun, 02/24/2008 - 21:12 — amberscheidToday I was watching a show on the history channel about the beginning of the earth. It focused on the climate changes, the dinosaur era, how the dinosaurs became extinct, etc. And while I was watching it, my reason and my faith were in an internal battle. I guess being a Christian has just made me believe that God created the world and all the animals and people in it in just seven days. All the science behind the earth’s creation I have heard in parts throughout my entire life.
I feel old.
Sun, 02/17/2008 - 14:43 — amberscheidApparently this is a normal feeling of college students… the feeling of being old. I was at Perkins yesterday morning in my hometown of Rochester, Minnesota being served by a waitress who looked like she was twelve! I know she was probably of legal working age and highly qualified to take my order.. but she looked so young!
18 hours i will never forget.
Sun, 02/10/2008 - 23:58 — amberscheidFrom 5pm yesterday night to 11am this morning, I along with my eight lovely RAP SCALLION teammates were at the armory for the 4th Annual Purdue University Dance Marathon, which is basically just an extremely large fundraiser for the Riley Children’s Hospital. Anyway, I am almost positive that it will go down as the most amazing eighteen hours of my life. This is for a variety of reasons. First of all, it was a GREAT cause. We were living out these children’s dreams.
ONE MAN. ONE MISSION: IGLOO
Sun, 02/03/2008 - 22:53 — amberscheidOnce Mother Nature laid her wintry hands on West Lafayette, Indiana, Mr. Kevin Allen White had a vision. A dream of building an igloo. He surveyed the snow. Found it to be perfect for the task. Then he, along with his trusty roommate, Tyler Vincent Hohen and others, began making this dream a reality. Using only the flimsy plastic drawers from their tightly budgeted college dorm room along with the hard working hands and Inuit instincts they were born with, they started constructing the igloo. The operation began at approximately 1:00pm on Saturday February 2, 2008.
loving the sun :)
Thu, 01/17/2008 - 21:34 — amberscheidFor this project, I am going to write about my belief in appreciating sunshine. Often times I find myself upset about the acne on my face, my frizzy hair, my pudgy belly or other seemingly terrible, pointless aspects of my body and my life. I argue unreasonably with my mom instead of trying to see her viewpoint and simply being thankful that I have her around to advise me. In the context of our society, this view is present as well. So many people are falling into a trap of self-hate and living with an eternal feeling of want.
A picture or a thousand words?
Sat, 01/12/2008 - 17:05 — amberscheidAs stated by another classmate, I too am feeling a little self-conscious given the vast experiences some of you seem to have! However I do feel like my high school teachers have helped prepared me for the workload and expectations this class will hold. For me, writing has always been something I have enjoyed doing, not something I consider pointless or a waste of time. This view has probably helped motivate me to complete some of those annoying projects and hopefully it has helped improve my skills as a writer as well.
