Reading Response Ch. 24 & 25
Posted April 13th, 2008 by orbital02Images are all around us and we can use them to our advantage or not. It all depends on the situation, context and our own knowledge of using them effectively. The readings in the book describe the different types of images, their functions, and how they are produced. Not only is this information important, but the manner in which we demonstrate these images to the world greatly affect what our overall goal can achieve to its audience. The readings also tell us why we should use different types of images for specific situations and how it sets the tone for event, article, report, etc.

Posted April 10th, 2008 by krwassonThe book had a lot of useful information that should pertain to all the different groups’ projects. For my group’s project, we will be designing two similar newsletters for the Beacon Academy, one to be sent to the parents, and the other to be sent out into the community. Chapters 24 and 25 of the textbook really stressed the importance of design. If our newsletter were entirely composed of plain black font of the same size and spacing, not a lot of people would want to read through it. The more eye-catching the newsletter, the more people will want to read through it.

Reading Response- Chapters 24 & 25
Posted April 8th, 2008 by mfjorgenChapter 24 gives some useful information about how visual images should be used in a paper or in context. The book explains that a visual image should not be used just for decorative purposes. It should be used to clarify information and make it easier for readers to understand the text that you are presenting. Another useful thing that we can use for our project is where the book explains how we should cite the sources that we find the images from.

Reading Response - Service Learning
Posted April 6th, 2008 by Ryan111The Faber article has some very interesting insights into service learning. The analysis was detailed and thorough, yet well-spoken and easy to read. I liked the way that real-world stories of people were used to relate to the workings of organizations. Each person is an organization of their living cells in the same way that a business is an organization of people. Every organization is a collection of specialists working together for common goals.
Reading Response Project 3
Posted April 3rd, 2008 by orbital02For Project 3, I was assigned a new group and so far we are all a little slow to get on the same page. Our non-for-profit organization is Lafayette Crisis Center. Our contact through this organization is Executive Director Jane McCann. We have already been in contact with her and are awaiting further instructions on our assignment. Currently, our project focus is to revise and modify a power point presentation for her organization. They wish to have a more visually pleasing slide show for the many conferences and events they attend.
Reading Response: Project 3
Posted April 2nd, 2008 by mfjorgenProject 3 seems to already be a really interesting project. I like the fact that we get to work with real world clients on this project, because I feel like the work that we will be doing will be put to good use. I know that we have learned a lot of valuable information from projects 1 and 2, but there is never a better learning experience than working face to face with someone. Also, just getting to witness the professional aspect of this project is going to be very helpful when dealing with clients in the future.
Reading Response - Web 2.0
Posted February 29th, 2008 by Ryan111I have heard the concept of WEB2 thrown around before but never well-explained. Now that I have read about it, I understand perfectly. The internet certainly has a long and changing history. It has grown from simple text and coding only accessible by programmers to a widely accessible and far-reaching network. If WEB1 is a network of linked pages including text and sometimes images, then WEB2 is most likely everything else.

Posted February 29th, 2008 by lrcarrIt is amazing how far the internet has come; now we cannot imagine life without it. The internet continues to improve throughout the years and will not stop with how it is now. The two articles they both talk about Del.icio.us, which is a site that you are able to bookmark (Social bookmarking) a web site with comments about the website that you liked about it. At Del.icio.us allows the browsers to look up the most common tags throughout all of the pages, or you can search for sites by tags. The web 2.0 is going to play a role to higher education by several ways.
Reading Response- New Possibilities for Communication
Posted February 28th, 2008 by mfjorgenAfter reading Johnson's and Alexander's articles, I learned a lot about the new Web 2.0. I actually have never heard about this before, so it was really interesting to read into it and see what kind of new aspects it involves. Like these articles explain, the World Wide Web is already such a profound technology that it is hard to imagine it much different. I like the analogy of the desert and the rain forest.
