Project Log for Week 12: Finishing the White Paper
The White Paper project is finally finished. This week was a probably one of the toughest weeks in regard to working with the paper. It was pretty difficult to cut down the paper a considerable because you write the paper with the intent that everything is important. Deciding what is essential is a very difficult task. Our last group meeting was last night Tuesday 25th. We all meet and discuss ways to improve our paper and what we would eliminate to meet the word count. We communicated with Gautam through a phone call during our meeting. This project I think has been very beneficial. It has taught me that communication is key and working together is the best way to finish a task. Even though we did have a bump in the road with our first draft, I still came away with a very valuable learning experience. Even though I’m glad that this project is over and done with… I will miss working with my group members. Jon, Maureen, Tom, and Gautam, I would like to thank all of you for your hard work and good luck on your next group assignment!

Nice work
We had to do the same thing with our project because like you we had lots of good stuff too. You are so right it is so hard to choose which ones to put in the paper and which ones to cut out but we managed to do it all. I definitely agree with all you said about communication because as you stated in your entry, this project taught me the importance of communication too. I believe communication is very essential in getting this project done. Like you and your partners, my partners and I had a great time doing the project.

It is interesting to see how many people had issues with the word count. This was just an extra obstacle with the already difficult task of improving a first draft. Our group also had some logistics problems. Like you, we had a member communicate with us via phone during one of our last meetings. For me, having face-to-face interaction was nearly essential for completion of this project. We accomplished much more in a quicker fashion than we would have with just email and chat communication. I wonder how conference calling would have worked. It’s much easier to communicate easily through speech in my opinion.

Our group had a tough time cutting out so much of our white paper as well. We all thought our parts were very important and some of us even had some information that we could have added. Instead at the last minute we had to decide what information could go without making our paper too broad. We also had to call a group member at our last meeting because there was an emergency and she could not be there. It worked out fine though and we were able to get our final draft the way we wanted to. It was a very hard project but I did learn a lot. Hopefully our group will be as successful as our groups were on the second project.
